A Little Something About Beeswax

We learned a little something about beeswax this week that we thought we’d share.

By way of background, in order to ensure consistency from batch to batch of Count Justinian Moustache Wax, all of the beeswax used in our moustache wax has come from the same supplier. Our supplier assures us that all of our beeswax is 100% pure, and contains no additives of any kind. Interestingly though, the natural color of beeswax varies from season to season depending on the pollen the bees are working on. In the words of our supplier, it can range “from very light yellow to a[n] almost burnt orange”. So as we head in to fall, if you notice our wax getting a shade or two darker, you can rest assured that this is due to the changing of the season and that the beeswax we use is the same as always – 100% pure.

Some questioned whether Count Justinian Moustache Wax could withstand the fury of Niagara Falls. Here’s Count Justinian with photographic evidence that it can. He was soaked, and his camera may never be the same, but his handlebar held up tightly!

Updated Ordering Information

We’ve been told that our ordering information wasn’t completely clear to some people so we’ve revised it a bit to make things clearer.  So it doesn’t get lost in the tumblelog, the information is still posted separately at http://www.CountWaxInfo.tumblr.com and there’s still a link to it on the right of this page.  Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the banner up top looks different.  We’re dropping the “Deluxe”.  Too much of a mouthful.  Of course our wax is still deluxe though….

Response to Customer Questions Regarding Wax Varieties

As we posted here when we launched in June, we are starting out selling 1-oz tins of unscented wax.  We toyed with a stiffer blend and with different scents but for various reasons we decided to launch with just the one product for now.  One of those reasons is simple economics — until we knew we had a viable product and brand to which the market would be receptive, we could not prudently commit the resources necessary to launch multiple products at once.  To advertise the availability of a product, we needed to have a meaningful amount of product available.  If the product didn’t sell as well as we’d like, we’d have to absorb the loss associated with making the unsold tins.  To start out, we couldn’t afford to risk multiplying that loss by a number of different product lines.

All that said, we do still intend to offer different waxes in the future.  We just have not yet set anything in stone.  We appreciate all the feedback we have received to date and we encourage everyone to let us know what they’d like to see from us next.  We’ve been asked about scents, we’ve been asked about different tin sizes and we would like to offer a stiffer blend too.  We’ll certainly take customer (and potential customer) feedback into account and try to respond to a market consensus.

We hope this update is helpful.  Feel free to contact us by email or on Twitter if you have any questions.

As always, thanks all for your support.
